Understanding waveforms

Waveforms in djay Pro give you a visual aid to mix with precision. They display your track’s structure, rhythm, and energy in real-time, helping you line up beats, spot transitions, and stay perfectly in sync during your performance.

The following image shows the entire track from start to finish. Use it to see the overall structure and quickly jump to different parts.

Waveform

Waveforms are color-coded to show which frequency ranges are active at any point in the track:

  • Red = Bass
  • Yellow = Low-mid
  • Green = High-mid
  • Blue = High frequencies

The colors help you quickly understand what’s happening sonically, whether it’s a drop, vocal, buildup, or drum break.

Scrolling waveform

Scrolling waveform

The scrolling waveform provides a real-time, zoomed-in view of the track as it plays. It updates continuously and responds instantly to actions like scratching, scrubbing, or jumping to a cue point.

Each bar is numbered at the start, and downbeats are marked with a solid white line in the beatgrid—helping you visually follow the rhythm and stay in sync while mixing.

The vertical red play marker moves across the waveform to show the current playback position, making it easy to align beats, monitor transitions, or anticipate upcoming elements in the track.
