How does sync work?
This article explains how djay Pro’s Beat Sync and Tempo Sync modes work, the difference between tempo-only syncing and full beat alignment, and how to manage sync behavior while mixing.
djay offers two sync modes to help align tracks easily
Beat Sync
Activating sync on a playing deck adjusts its BPM to the master deck’s BPM. The Sync button will be outlined in blue, indicating Beat Sync is active.
Tempo Sync
If you enable sync on another deck—or activate sync on a currently playing track while Beat Sync is already engaged—the decks enter a sync lock. They stay aligned, even during backspins or cue jumps. The Sync button appears filled in blue, indicating tempo and beat alignment.
To turn off either mode, simply tap the Sync button again.
Sync settings
You can fine-tune how sync behaves in djay’s settings.
- Go to Settings → General → Sync type.
- Choose whether to sync BPM only or BPM and beats.
- Set the beat sync interval (1 or 4 beats).
- Use Maintain on song load or Turn off on pause/scratch/cue jump to control when sync remains active.
Beat Sync is ideal for quick tempo matching, while Tempo Sync provides full beat alignment for seamless transitions—perfect for looping, scratching, or creative mixing.
