Audio devices
Set up your audio preferences based on your gear setup—whether you’re DJing with just your laptop or using external hardware like mixers and audio interfaces.

Audio buffer size
Adjust how quickly djay processes audio. Lower buffer sizes reduce latency, while higher sizes improve stability. Choose between 64–2048 frames. The resulting latency will be shown underneath.
Mixer mode
Choose how djay Pro handles your audio routing:
- Internal: Audio is mixed within the djay software. Use this if you’re outputting through a standard sound card, DJ controller, or want to cue tracks using a split cable setup.
- External: Audio is routed to separate channels—ideal for using external mixers and multi-channel audio interfaces.
When using supported hardware, djay automatically sets the mixer mode—manual set up is not needed in most cases.
Internal mixing options
If you're using djay to control audio internally, you’ll find these routing options:
- Main Output: Select the stereo output for your main audio signal—usually your speakers or PA.
- Pre-cueing: Select the stereo output for headphone monitoring. This is how you beatmatch and prepare your next track.
- Booth: Choose a separate output just for your booth monitors (Optional). Only available in internal mixing mode.
- Microphone: Choose your mic input source. Disable it if you’re not using a mic to avoid unwanted noise.
- Recording input: Enables djay to record audio from an external source, such as a mixer or microphone.
You can pre-cue using a stereo/mono DJ split cable or by connecting an external sound card or DJ controller. Learn more about pre-cueing.
External mixing options

When using an external mixer and multi-channel interface, configure each deck and channel separately:
- Decks 1–4: Assign stereo outputs for each deck.
- Pre-cueing: Select the output used for headphone cueing.
- Sampler: Assign a separate output for the Sampler.
- Looper: Assign a separate output for the Looper.
- Recording Input: Choose the input for recording via microphone or external line-in.
To output four decks to a four-channel mixer, you'll need an audio interface with at least four separate stereo outputs. Go to the Connecting hardware section for more on hardware setup.
