Using Audio Interfaces with djay

This article explains how djay supports standalone audio interfaces and DJ controllers with built-in audio. You’ll learn how compatibility works across different platforms, when class-compliant hardware is required, and what to expect if you’re using third-party devices not on our official support list.

Understanding Audio Interfaces in djay

In djay, it’s important to distinguish between dedicated audio interfaces and DJ controllers that include a built-in audio interface.

  • DJ controllers (like those from Pioneer, Reloop, or Numark) are typically plug-and-play devices that combine control functions (e.g. jog wheels, faders, buttons) with an integrated sound card.
You can find a list of compatible controllers on our hardware page.

  • Standalone audio interfaces, on the other hand, are separate external devices that handle only audio input and output, without any physical DJ controls.

djay is designed to work flexibly with a wide range of audio interfaces. In general, any audio interface that works with your device’s operating system will also work with djay.

  • On macOS or Windows, djay can use any audio interface recognized by your computer.
  • On iOS or Android, djay supports class-compliant audio interfaces (those that do not require additional drivers).
info

Unlike some other DJ platforms, djay doesn’t lock you into specific audio interfaces.

This is especially important for DVS (Digital Vinyl System) setups — djay works with any class-compliant interface recognized by your system, without requiring proprietary hardware or drivers.

This open approach gives you the flexibility to use the equipment that best fits your setup.

Compatibility and Support

While most audio interfaces that meet the above criteria should work with djay, we cannot guarantee the performance of products that have not been fully tested.
