How do I MIDI map Neural Mix™ controls in djay?
Neural Mix™ can be controlled directly on screen or through MIDI. This article walks you through how to map available Neural Mix actions using djay’s MIDI Learn tools.
Introduction
Neural Mix™ can be used through the djay interface, but there is also a suite of MIDI commands you can map to control your Neural Mix audio tracks.
You can choose a Deck or the Mixer as a Target and map Rotaries, Faders, or Buttons to control:
- Neural Mix Filter (Instrumental / Acappella)
- Neural Mix Volume
- Neural Mix EQ (–12 dB to +12 dB)
- Neural Mix Crossfader
- Channel modes: 2 (Instrumental / Acappella), 3 (Drums / Harmonics / Vocals), or 4 (Drums / Bass / Harmonics / Vocals)
You can also map MIDI Buttons to Mute or Solo each Neural Mix component.
- macOS
- iOS
- Windows
- Android
Keyboard Mapping
The Neural Mix controls can be mapped to any key on your keyboard.
To do this:
- Open the Shortcuts editor in djay's Preferences menu.
- Select the Target as any deck (e.g., Deck 1, Deck 2) for the desired keyboard key.
- Scroll down the actions list to find the Neural Mix actions.
DJ Controller Mapping
To get the full capability of djay Pro for Mac's Neural Mix AI-driven audio separation on your MIDI controller, you can set up the following available MIDI controls:
- Neural Mix Filter (Instrumental / Acappella)
- Neural Mix Volume
- Neural Mix EQ (–12 dB to +12 dB)
- Neural Mix Crossfader
You can choose whether you'd like to use these Neural Mix controls on 2, 3, or 4 channels.
You can also map MIDI buttons to Neural Mix actions for the same channels so you can Mute or Solo each instrument.
To map each control, follow the steps below:
- Connect your MIDI controller to your Mac and open djay Pro.
- Open the MIDI menu at the top of your screen and select the controller you want to add MIDI actions to. This opens the MIDI Learn window:
- Move the MIDI control you'd like to add a Neural Mix action to.
- Choose a Deck or Mixer as the Target.
- Select the Neural Mix action you want to assign (eg. Neural Mix Volume).
- Repeat for the remaining controls.
DJ Controller Mapping
-
Open the djay Pro dashboard menu and tap the cog to open Settings.
-
Tap the MIDI Devices menu item.
-
Select the controller to which you'd like to add MIDI actions.
-
Use the MIDI component you want to map to show it in the editor.
-
Then select either Deck or Mixer as a Target.
-
Tap on the MIDI control to edit it, and choose Action to select what MIDI command it will control.
Note: The list of actions you are able to view will be different depending on what type of MIDI component is being mapped. -
Tap the action you wish to map, and you’ll be taken back to the action editor screen.
-
Tap Back to return to the MIDI component list and repeat the steps for all the other commands you need.
DJ Controller Mapping
To map Neural Mix actions to a MIDI controller:
- Connect your MIDI controller to your PC and open djay Pro.
- Open the MIDI Configuration menu and select your controller to open the MIDI mapping window.
- Move the MIDI control you'd like to add a Neural Mix action to.
- Choose a Deck or Mixer as the Target
- Select the Neural Mix action you want to assign (eg. Neural Mix Volume)
- Repeat for the remaining controls.
Custom MIDI mapping for Neural Mix™ is not supported on Android.
Pre-mapped hardware that includes Neural Mix functionality will still work as designed, but user-created MIDI mappings are not available.
