Main out effects (Audio units)

Main Out effects let you apply third-party audio plug-ins—called Audio Units (AU)—to your master output. These are powerful tools that can shape your entire mix with studio-quality sound processing, such as mastering effects, unique filters, or creative textures.

Audio Units work like virtual hardware you can load directly into djay. You can use them in addition to djay’s built-in effects, making them great for DJs who want to customize their sound or apply a signature touch across the whole set.

Only one Audio Unit effect can be active at a time.

How to use main out effects

1. Install your Audio Unit plug-ins. Make sure they’re installed in the correct folder:

   • For all user accounts: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components
   • For your user account only: ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components

2. Launch djay Pro.

3. Go to Main Out Effects:

   • Open the Mixer menu in the top toolbar.
   • Select Main Out Effects from the list.

   

4. Choose your Audio Unit.

   • Your installed AU plug-ins will appear in the list.
   • Click one to activate it on the master output.

5. To turn it off, select No Effect from the same list.

Audio Units are ideal for advanced effects like mastering limiters, stereo wideners, or unique filters. Experiment with different plug-ins to enhance your sound.
