The Files collection in the music library allows easy access to individual tracks and folders from external media sources (e.g., USB sticks or hard drives) in djay for iOS. From here, you can also add individual tracks or folders from iCloud Drive and the Files app.
For more information about accessing songs stored in other cloud services (e.g., OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.), please see this FAQ.
Please note that use of the Files collection in djay requires that you must:
- Be using djay for iOS version 3.2 or newer.
- Have an active PRO subscription.
- Have an iPhone running iOS 13 (or later) or iPad running iPadOS 13 (or later).
Adding songs from an external media source
- Connect your external media source to your iOS device using the appropriate adapter, e.g., a Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter or USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter (depending on your iOS device connector).
- Select the Files tab in the music library in djay, then tap the "+" in the upper left corner.
- Select whether you'd like to add individual songs with "Add Files", or if you'd like to add a folder with "Add Folder". For this demo, we'll select "Add Folder".
- In the pop-up window, navigate to the external drive, e.g. "USB MUSIC", and find the folder you wish to add. You have the option to add complete top-level folders (e.g., USB MUSIC) or sub-folders. Select the folder you'd like to add, then tap "Done".
You now have access to all of the songs held in the folder you just added to the Files collection.
Adding songs from iCloud Drive
- Select the Files tab in the music library in djay, then tap the "+" in the upper left corner.
- Select whether you'd like to add individual songs with "Add Files", or if you'd like to add a folder with "Add Folder".
- Navigate to "iCloud Drive" in the pop-up window, and select the files or folder you'd like to add to djay.
If you add your complete iCloud Drive folder or a sub-folder from iCloud Drive, please note that you will first need to download the songs to your iPad or iPhone before you can play them in djay.
Adding songs from the Files app
- Select the Files tab in the music library in djay, then tap the "+" in the upper left corner.
- Select whether you'd like to add individual songs with "Add Files", or if you'd like to add a folder with "Add Folder".
- Navigate to "On My iPad" in the pop-up window, and select the files or folder you'd like to add to djay.
NOTE: Adding tracks to djay for iOS only saves a reference to the original source where the file is stored. It does not duplicate or move your music files.
Additionally, searching tracks via the Files source is not an available feature due to iOS limitations.
