The djay Media Library database is used by djay to store playlists, history, the queue, as well as all per-song metadata like cue points and loop regions. It is kept in the "djay" folder inside the Music folder in your home folder.
In very rare cases this database can get corrupted, or there can be a version mismatch when switching between different versions of djay (older versions of djay might not be able to read databases modified by newer versions).
When this happens, djay will show you an alert like these:
You have the following options:
- Select Quit to quit the app. You can then restore an older version of the database from backups (see below).
- Select Continue to create a new empty database. The corrupted or incompatible database will be saved.
- Select Learn More to get to this support article.
To help us improve the stability of djay, we would appreciate if you could also contact our support team with information about the problem and attach a copy of your corrupt database.
Automatic Backups
djay automatically keeps backups of the djay Media Library:
- Every time you launch djay, a backup is created unless one was already created on that day.
- Up to 10 backups are kept. Older backups are automatically deleted.
These backups are stored in the folder "Backups" in the same "djay" folder containing "djay Media Library". Each backup is kept in a folder named with the date when the backup was created (e.g. named "2023-03-18" for March 18, 2023).
Restoring Backups
In order to restore a backup, replace "djay Media Library" in your "djay" folder with another version from your backups:
- Rename or move "djay Media Library" in your "djay" folder.
- Copy "djay Media Library" from the most recent folder inside the "Backups" folder into the "djay" folder. You can do this by clicking and dragging the file into the "djay" folder while holding the "option" (⌥) key.
Afterwards you can launch djay to use the restored djay Media Library.
